Lucy is one of my best friends and when I got back from Maui last November, we knew we had to meet up and take some gorgeous couple portraits of her and her boo! The question was: where? Winter sessions can be difficult because Colorado gets super brown and doesn’t always look great in photos. So we headed to the mountains where snow abounded, making a perfect winter wonderland for these couple portraits.
We ventured around Guanella Pass, narrowly avoiding its closure in mid-November. The Pass is perfect for couple portraits because it has so many cute spots to shoot at. There’s lakes, pines, aspens (gorgeous in the fall!), and mountain peaks! It even has the adorable little town of Georgetown at its base so we can get cute town-style portraits as well. It is for sure my fave mountain location; I’ll most likely suggest it to you if you want the mountain look! (Unless it’s winter because it closes from about mid-November to about mid-May!)
It is suuuuper cold though! I warned Lucy & Peter to dress in layers and that’s exactly what they did! The nice thing about Guanella Pass is there are so many beautiful backgrounds right on the road! Our lovely driver (aka my hubby) easily pulled over so we could get out, take the portraits, and be back in the warm car in no time!
My favorite part of Guanella Pass has to be the top! With views of Square Top Mountain on one side and Mount Bierstadt on the other, there’s no shortage of gorgeous photos up here! We timed the shoot so that the sun was low and almost going behind Square Top Mountain, making for some beautiful late-afternoon light.
Thank you Lucy & Peter for braving the cold with me and creating some wintery magic!
